Directions to Talkeetna

The town of Talkeetna is located approximately 120 road miles north of Anchorage, and approximately 80 miles from Palmer/Wasilla.

By Car
Some locals are still perturbed at the State of Alaska for paving the
road to Talkeetna in the 1970s. But for travelers by road to the area,
here are the directions from Anchorage:
Travel North from Anchorage towards Wasilla on AK-1 (Glenn Highway).
Take AK-3 (George Parks Highway) towards Wasilla. Continue through
Wasilla to Milepost 98.7 on AK-3 (George Parks Highway), turn right
onto the Talkeetna Spur Road. Continue on the Talkeetna Spur Road 14
miles into the town site of Talkeetna. Approximate travel time is 2
hours from Anchorage.

By Train
If the roads are treacherous, or you want a different traveling
experience, the Alaska Railroad's Aurora Winter Train is a fantastic
option for meandering to Talkeetna from Anchorage and Wasilla. The one-way fare is $59 for adults from Anchorage, $28 for children. Contact www.akrr.com for more info.

Aurora Winter Train, Northbound:
departs Anchorage at 8:30 A.M. from the Anchorage Depot;
departs Wasilla at 10:00 A.M. from Wasilla Depot;
arrives in Talkeetna at 11:40 A.M.at the Old Talkeetna Depot (Downtown).

Aurora Winter Train, Southbound:
departs Talkeetna at 4:30 P.M. from the Old Talkeetna Depot (Downtown);
arrives in Wasilla at 6:00 P.M.;
arrives in Anchorage at 7:45 P.M.

By Plane
As the crow flies Talkeetna is air accessible from anywhere in the
state. The Talkeetna State Airport has transient parking available for
those flying their own planes into Talkeetna, and a Flight Service
Station is manned year round. Anyone who arrives via aircraft would be
setting precedent, so please let us know how it goes.

The traditional way for single ladies to arrive in Talkeetna is by train, where all eligible bachelors will already be waiting for ( hopefully many) women, to greet them off the train.
